Domain names for sale: analystblog.com and wherewire.com

Posted by: rleathern
in Blogs

I have a couple of domain names that I am open to selling:

analystblog.com

wherewire.com

Analystblog gets about 400 or so uniques per month, and wherewire.com sees over 7000 according to the records I have from Sedo.com — would appear to have a bit of value for someone looking for an interesting domain. If you are interested, drop me an email with your price at rob at leathern.com.

Good Startup Blogs: Jellyfish.com

Posted by: rleathern
in Blogs, Online Shopping

I really like startup blogs that are smart and informative: like that of Jellyfish.com, the comparison shopping/advertising company which was acquired by Microsoft in October. Congratulations to the Jellyfish team; they were doing some interesting stuff and hopefully they can continue to do so under MSFT’s roof.

.Posting from Treo: new platform

Posted by: rleathern
in Blogs

I have no idea how this will turn out as it is my first post on wordpress via my Treo. I enjoyed using Moveable Type but newer versions would just have javascript errors on the Treo browser. plus I have been paying extra hosting bills which I am now consolidating.

I am going to be posting more here: but I do also want to highlight the newest leathern blog: autocirca.com from my brother, Ray!

Purposeful Blog Misspelling? Re: Bostwana

Posted by: rleathern
in Blogs

I enjoy reading former colleague and Jupiter travel analyst Jared Blank’s Onlinetravelreview site but was quite surprised to see this apparent misspelling in an article about Botswana (Bostwana). Jared is a very savvy online marketer, and I’m curious if he spelled it incorrectly in the heading in order to see if he could get high search engine organic listing for this (I guess frequent) misspelling of the country’s name. I know that Jared has been to Botswana, for one thing … hmmmm. I will see what he says about this, but his post does rank 7th for the term “Bostwana” in Google… now if he’d only made Bostwana the first word of the posting and it had been in the name of the URL well maybe that would have been even better….!

Slow posting — getting stuff lined up

Posted by: rleathern
in Blogs

Things have been a bit slow on the posting front for obvious reasons, but will be trying to post a bit more in the coming weeks.

One interesting piece I noticed is about Right Media powering private advertising exchanges for people, see article here. It sounds though what it really is is just a way to tap into the Right Media network more than creating actual private exchanges. Still, it is progress in moving to a more market-based approach for inventory pricing. Transparency will still remain a big issue in the space; Right Media isn’t going all out on that front in the near-term but their designs certainly seem to be on the player to do that long-term.

Imported old analystblog entries

Posted by: rleathern
in Blogs

I just imported all the old analystblog entries as far back as 2003, minus the trackback spam of course. Sorry if it messes up your feedreader…. I’ll do a bit of consolidation of the categories when I get a chance… also when I have some time I’ll hopefully fix some of the formatting issues in the right column.

Where is the picture from?

Posted by: rleathern
in Blogs

The picture to the right was taken on a recent vacation on the island of Favignana, a small island off the Eastern coast of Sicily. A fascinating place, especially if you like Tuna or tufa. At sunset the western part of the island has that amazing sunset view, plus beaches with lots of great skipping stones and no people around (at least not on this particular day). The blue, clear waters of the Mediterranean were amazing.

“Linked”

Posted by: rleathern
in Blogs

I’m Rob’s friend Abby, and this is my first-ever blog entry. I figured I’d start with a book recommendation. “Linked” by Albert-Laszlo Barabasi (a physics professor at Notre Dame) should appeal to anyone interested in social psychology and/or how networks (ranging from dinner parties to the Internet) work. It’s written in simple English, which as a non-techy, I definitely appreciate. I particularly like the anecdotes about the origins of some network-related phenomena, such as the Kevin Bacon Game and the term “Six Degrees of Separation.” It turrns out that the Kevin Bacon Game began with three college friends in Pennsylvania and became famous when Jon Stewart invited them on the show (after they wrote Stewart a letter). On a list of 1,000 most-connected Hollywood actors, Kevin Bacon is actually No. 876. It takes an average 2.79 links on average for Bacon to reach any other Hollywood actor. The most connected actor is Rod Steiger, linked to any other Hollywood actor by an average of 2.53 connections.

Welcome, me.

Posted by: rleathern
in Blogs

This is my inaugural blog entry, and really just for me to see how this puppy works. Oh yeah, I also think that this is an interesting topic worthy of extended discourse…

So, to begin with I just want to say that I went to a corporate briefing with Nintendo this morning here in NYC — part of the run up to E3 — and they gave me a GameBoy Advance SP. What a great toy. And, if there is an area in which we continue to observe new and strange manifestations of human behavior through technology its in videogames. I’ll likely be writing a fair amount on this topic as it intersects with my professional and personal interest.
